Why I Want to Join the SHE Matters Peace Walk
Next week our school will participate in the She Matters Peace Walk, and I have been thinking a lot about what this event means to me. I want to join because every girl deserves to feel safe when she travels, studies or dreams about her future. But the truth is that even today many girls still walk with fear instead of freedom.
In my neighbourhood I have seen girls take longer routes just to avoid a lane that feels unsafe. I have seen younger girls stay silent about things that bother them because they think they will not be believed. I have seen women in my family adjust their
ambitions because safety becomes a bigger concern than their dreams.
I know this one walk will not fix everything. But it is a beginning, and beginnings matter. When students, teachers, parents and volunteers walk together, it sends a clear message to everyone watching. It says that safety is not a small issue, and being silent is not an option anymore.
I want to walk for myself, for my younger sister and for every girl who still feels nervous while stepping out alone. I also want to show that safety is not just a women’s responsibility. It is something the whole community must work on.
I hope that when people see us walking with placards and confidence, they will understand that we are asking for a world where dignity is not something girls must fight for, but something they receive automatically. That is why I will proudly walk in the front line next week.
